Leveled Progression System
- Our progression system provides a motivational path for swimmers of all abilities to improve their swimming expertise.
- Each practice session is broken down by lane to allow for optimal flexibility and level growth without changing practice time frequently.
- Current level and advancement is at the coaches discretion
- Levels are tracked and available for parents to see within this website in the "My Account" area, clicking on a swimmers name.
How it Works
Athletes will learn the necessary skills in their current level, while also being introduced to more advanced techniques. The levels are designed to focus the proper emphasis on fundamental skills and allow the swimmers to effectively progress without creating bad habits. Swimmers will not progress to the following level unless they have fully met all requirements for the current level. This is up to the coaches discretion when looking at what is best for each individual athlete.
|1||Water Intro||Gaining swimmer comfort in the water, face submersion, and breath control|
|2||Body Position and Kicking||Focus on correct swimming posture, and further expanding the level of comfort that the swimmer feels in the water. Introduction to side breath.|
|3||Free & Back; Intro to Breast||Incorporating arm movement with kicking pattern. Establish correct breathing pattern. Basic breaststroke kick.|
|4||Free & Back; Intro to Dolphins and Dives||Further refining freestyle and backstroke. Basic dolphin movement. When swimmers are finished with this level, they should be able to legally swim freestyle and backstroke for 50 yards (two laps).|
Free & Back
||Focus switches to breaststroke, while still further refining freestyle and backstroke. Introduction to dives.|
Refine all other strokes
|Focus on butterfly, while still refining all other strokes. When finished with this level, swimmers will be legal in all four strokes.|
Intro to Turns
|Emphasis on turns, with further refinement of strokes. Effective dives.|
|8||Racing Turns and Dives||Begin using blocks, and holding mock events, helping swimmers feel prepared for competitive races.|
|9||Competitive Training||Although there are set requirements to progress within each level, as we get closer to the summer swim season there will be a need to spread this training across all levels. This will allow the younger swimmers competing, who aren’t necessarily able to swim butterfly and breaststroke, to still be able to compete with confidence and basic skills. This level will be tailored to the current ability of all swimmers.|
